We’re often told to dream big. However, realizing our dreams can sometimes feel daunting, especially when our final destination involves the achievement of smaller, sequential goals along the way. How can we ensure that we are practising the kind of effective goal setting that will help us achieve our short and longer-term objectives?

One helpful strategy is the SMART framework. An acronym, SMART encourages us to set goals that are:
Specific:
Ensure that you set precise goals so that you clearly know what you want to achieve
Measurable:
Ensure that you can track and quantify the progress towards achieving your goals
Attainable:
Ensure that you establish goals that can be realistically achieved with the available tools and resources
Relevant:
Ensure that your goals are appropriate to what you ultimately want to achieve
Time-bound:
Ensure that you set deadlines for achieving your goals
The next time you need to set a goal, remember to do it the SMART way!
